Well, close enough to free.
I discovered this site a couple of weeks ago - http://freeipodcable.com. Basically, they offer a retractable iPod cable for the cost of postage (US $5). A few people blogged about it on the web, often wondering if it was a scam.
I thought it might have been a scam too - but given it was only $5, I thought I’d try anyway. I figured If I got scammed I’d blog about it.
As it turned out, they delivered as promised. Even sent it to Australia for the same cost. Cable works fine, and you can’t beat that price.
I guess they make their money from the postage cost, as it is higher than the actual postage cost to most places - even it seems to Australia. They can’t be making much profit though I’d think…

Interesting little project. It says on one of the pages that it is run by college students in Los Angeles, CA. Even if the postage and maybe the Google ads on the site covered the cost of the cables I imagine there would be a fair amount of labour involved getting them all sent out, particularly if it got popular.
