Thanks a bunch!! This helped me as well with Leopard Server 10.5.8 installed on two mirrored (Raid 1) internal harddisks!
Spotlight is indexing again.

I’m guessing Apple disabled some Spotlight indexing on Leopard Server for a reason — performance hit? Anyone care to comment?

This fixed my problem too. I also created a Raid 1 array on my xserve and installed the OS onto that.
